Description

On November 7th 2012, two weeks before I gave birth to my daughter, I received a photo of a lovely beach in Cornwall. It was for a painting commissioned as a wedding gift for David & Emily. Frustrated with being a heffalump and wary of the loss of the meagre painting time I had managed to create while being a stay-at-home mum to one very cute but rambunctious toddler, I started prepping for this piece feverishly. You’d think I would never be able to touch a paintbrush again the way I attacked this! By the 23rd I had emailed a prep sketch to the clients for approval, picked a canvas, and tested some ideas about how I was going to do this. To say I was excited would be an understatement.

On the 26th, I gave birth. All halt! Zo’s arrival threw me off for at least a month or two. The sheer lack of sleep alone was mind-boggling. You’d think I’d have remembered it from the last time I did the whole pregnancy, giving birth thing. It’s not like it was that long ago. My son is just 2 years older. But alas!

It wasn’t til the end of February that I made a comeback. One day, my toddler was at his aunt and uncle’s so I seized the moment. I plopped the baby on a floor blanket under the easel and began. I didn’t actually finish it until 15 March 2013.

To say that I am pleased with this piece of work is a joke. My 3 month old looked at me as though I’d lost my mind when I danced round the canvas laughing uncontrollably. What she doesn’t know is that this one piece proved something very important to me – I can still paint with 2 kids under the age of 3. Bonza!

Go Stacey! Go Stacey!
